Happy Mother’s Day To All The Mothers Who Have The Toughest Job in The World!

Happy Mother’s Day

Waking up this morning I have an amazing feeling of gratitude for all the Mother’s in my life that have raised me and help me get to where I am today. I came from a very unique up bringing when I grew up because I was raised by my Grandmother from the age of 2 because my Mom was had health challenges and needed help raising me. Plus I am sure I was a handful at the time and still am today 🙂

My Mom and Grandmother both taught me so much which I value today, my hard work ethic, stubbornness to never give up in what I believe in, to have compassion to all no matter what’s their situation, problems, race…etc to always welcome them in and do your best to help. I am sure there is so much more.

Growing up I’m sure I was short sighted and argued against their wisdom every step of the way as I went through the personal growth stages of being dependant and independent.  Now being at the stage of intra-dependant I can understand and appreciate what they have to still teach me even to this day.

They were amazing at being mothers, I never got into any real trouble and was always respectful to the people I met.

It was funny this morning I was looking up to see what the definition of “Mother” was and found medical related definitions, religious views but didn’t find what I feel is the true definition of Mothers which is:

“A mother is a selfless guide, healer, mentor who has chosen to give her life and take on the responsibility through thick and thin to do their best they can to teach their child and/or children how to live in this world. They understand it can be a thankless journey, with long hours, sleepless nights, they understand the role and do it day in and day out with no regret”

That is my definition of a “Mother”

Take the time today to Thank the Mothers in your life.

What Annoys Me About Social Media Marketing

This morning I was working away creating a follow up from a meeting I had yesterday with some major players in the Ontario Real Estate industry. When all of a sudden I receive this message above (click image to enlarge).

Richard Williams sent me a link which I didn’t show in the image because I don’t want to promote it.  I asked him what is the link and good morning in my first comment, then you can read from there what I said, which you can see I lose him because it’s not about making a connecting it’s really about hit it and quit it pitching.

What is truly annoying is this guy has some amazing experts he is following Scott Stratten, James Wedmore, and Gary Vaynerchuk who all teach that you can’t just post a link to someone and expect them to click on it. Even more importantly get them to buy into your product.

I think Scott said it best in one of his video’s; this is like me going into a shoe store and the sales person throwing a shoe which hits me square in the face. Then asks me if I would like to buy that shoe because it will help me look better while I roller blade. I know WHAT! doesn’t make sense right? I don’t wear shoes when I wear roller blade, I wear roller blades. I’m deviating from Scott’s scenario a bit but I want to prove a point here. Then when you ask 3 questions at tops, about the product they answer you shorter and shorter until they just walk away in mid conversation. Then they target another defenseless shopper and christen them with the other shoe  square in the noise and go through that process with them.

This is no different from this guy messaging me out of the blue and saying this link will help me make more money. I should of asked what if I want to make less money? Does this link help me do that or what if I want to make someone I really don’t like make less money, will that link help? Come on!

People have to learn just because we have access to hundreds of thousands if not millions of people with just one post, message…etc doesn’t mean we have the right to disregard we are people. I am receiving more and more of these frustrating direct spam messages that I am going to start calling them out until we as a business community don’t let these people get away with it anymore.

1) We are people that need to connect, if you want to build your business build that relationship first and care about your community (clients for businesses)

2) Ask permission, don’t hit me with your shoe without getting to know me. I might be wearing my steel toe work boots and I throw back with ninja like accuracy.

Social Tools are just tools, they do not give you permission to spam me or anyone else with information they are not interested in.  Build up that relationship first, get to know the person and then ask permission if they would like you to send them information about your product and/or service…etc.

Sales over that past 30+ years has never changed, we just have more information available to us at the touch of our finger tips and connect at the speed of now.

I am absolutely no body when it comes to the Social Media Marketing industry and I have seen enormous amounts of success using Social Media Marketing because I know a few truths which has made me successful

1) Bring joy to myself and then bring joy to others

2) Social Media tools are no different from me being on my phone at home in a conference call with millions of people. The way I act is no different.

3) Care about your community (clients for businesses) and they will help you grow past your wildest dreams.

What is The Going Rate…

It is interesting Sunday afternoon, I’m sitting her just getting  over a cold while searching for contracts and something hit me, “What is the going rate for a Social Media Consultant”?

Side note:

Sorry everyone for the recent posts on courses, sales posts and these business inquiry posts. Like I said before I’m rebuilding my business and would really appreciate your help.  Starting on Monday I will be doing more educational posts, just need your help to figure some things out.  It’s better to work with a team vs. alone 🙂 

Interesting question because there are so many factors to consider like:

1. My cost to be a Social Media Consultant
2. Managing my rate so that it covers my business and personal expenses.
3. Not charging to much so people don’t want to work with me
4. Not charging to little that people don’t respect the value.

I did a post early called “The Truth about Business” where in the post I talked about how to figure  out your rates by breaking down your monthly expenses.

I figured out my rate would be $100 per hour which after doing some market research I see there is a sliding scale for Social Media Consultants.  The low end is $25 per hour and the high end is $500 per hour what I have seen so far.

The other factor Social Media Consultants have added is a on going maintenance fee to manage their clients Social Networks and help them grow their following. Which the rates I’ve seen are as low as $50 per month up to $5,000 per month which I am sure that’s for larger Corporations.

It’s interesting to see how these rates fluctuate but the service are still pretty much the same which is

1. Design, implement and maintain
2. Content creation and distribution
3. Community relations
4. Customer Service
5. Crowd Sourcing

The rest are just bells and whistles that really don’t mean much because no one can promise they can get you 10,000 followers in 30 days that all 10,000 are going to purchase your products. If you are Coke, Pepsi, Apple…etc that is doable but they have a house hold name. If you’re an up and coming company it is going to take consistent relationship building and proper distribution.  I have seen consultants promise this type of service to companies to later find out yeah they might have a following of 10,000+ people but nothing is happening. Sales are not increasing, no one is liking or commenting on their posts and the company feels Social Marketing doesn’t work.

 Which is just like any other marketing campaign the more eye’s you have looking at your company consistently over a longer period of time will increase traffic flow as long as you content has 3 main factors are:

• It’s the first
• It’s the best
• or has the WOW factor
• or a combination of any of the 3

 Then this will increase engagement and potentially increase revenue. That is just how simple Social Marketing works.  Sorry a little rant there, this is because it is frustrating to go into meetings where a so called Social Media Consultant has promised 10,000+ followers and how that’s going to benefit the company profits. The company thinks this is the way Social Marketing works and buys in to later find out that they just purchased 10,000+ people who are not even people half the time, most of the time they are just ghost accounts the consultant has purchased.

The frustrating point for me is going into a company that has had this happen and trying to re-educate them how Social Marketing really works. Which is hard because it’s like talking to a buddy who just got cheated on by the girl of his dreams. Trying to tell him that “dude there are amazing women out there, that was just a one of the bad ones”.

If you have ever been cheated on you know the response you receive.

• Women suck!
• I will never get into a committed relationship again
• I will never trust another women again
• …etc

There is no difference when people work with a bad Social Media consultant.

The Secret to Overcoming Your Challenges Workshop
