Twitter is Dead…. Really!

You would be surprised at how many people tell me I don’t understand, no one is using Twitter anymore. Twitter is a dead tool; I need to move on to Facebook and/or Google Plus.

How many of you heard this from other professionals? Some person who is trying to teach you on what the trends are?

I’ll be completely honest with you guys like I always am. I really want to say to these people… “If you are having problems with using Twitter as a Social Networking tool all you have to do is ask for help, you don’t need to slam me for being able to use it properly”. That is what I would like to say, but I’m patient and listen to what they have to say. I ask them if they would like to learn how to use Twitter like I do to build my community? Do you know what happens? 98% of these people say NO they are fine. The other 2% of them say they will try it for a bit and give up because they still use the same thinking to try to build their followers but now use different tools, gimmicks…etc Be it trying to automate their posts, gorilla market by sending out numerous amounts of posts per day..etc.

Try This: If you are having problems with Twitter and really don’t understand what I am talking about I would like you to try this below and I want to know how it goes. Seriously! If you want to learn how to use Twitter properly do this task below and let me know what happens.

First I want you to write down 10 marketing comments that you feel are relevant to marketing your business through Twitter and I will give you a few examples to show you and you can make up the rest.

1)       Learn how to make an extra $1,000 this week “click here

2)      Want to have clients knocking on your front door “click here

3)      I have the top 10 Secrets to building your business “click here

…etc you can fill in the rest.

Here is what I want you to do, once you make the list of 10 comments trying to keep it to 140 characters I want you to exchange ““click here to “call me back – 111-111-1111” and put your phone number they can call you back on.

Now I want you to call someone you kind of know but not really well and do this

1)       Call them and if they answer or not just say one of the comments fully

–          “Learn how to make an extra $1,000 this week call me back – 111-111-1111”

Then hang up, don’t let them respond.

2)      If they call back don’t answer their phone call let it go to voice mail

3)      Then in 15 min have another comment ready and then call them back

–          “Want to have clients knocking on your front door call me back – 111-111-1111”

Then hang up on them again, don’t let them respond.

By now you should be getting the point, if you don’t repeat this a few more times.

Most people would be annoyed and eventually tell you to stop calling them, I know I would.  The point here is this; we think that because we only have 140 characters we have to jam a sales pitch into this small post. Which is not how we talk to people in our normal day, why would we do it because we only have 140 characters? We shouldn’t, that’s the point. There is no difference how we need to relate to people online or offline and this key fact is why people fail at using Twitter. A lot of people are joining Twitter because they understand it’s a great Social Networking tool to meet new people, but they stop talking to people and start throwing out comments hoping someone is listening. As the “Try This” home work shows above, you will find that it doesn’t connect to people and only frustrates them.

Let’s throw out some really useless stats that people think matter.  Which I will explain why I say they don’t matter.

#tweets

  • 3 years, 2 months and 1 day. The time it took from the first Tweet to the billionth Tweet.
  • 1 week. The time it now takes for users to send a billion Tweets.
  • 50 million. The average number of Tweets people sent per day, one year ago.
  • 140 million. The average number of Tweets people sent per day, in the last month.
  • 177 million. Tweets sent on March 11, 2011.
  • 456. Tweets per second (TPS) when Michael Jackson died on June 25, 2009 (a record at that time).
  • 6,939. Current TPS record, set 4 seconds after midnight in Japan on New Year’s Day.

#accounts

  • 572,000. Number of new accounts created on March 12, 2011.
  • 460,000. Average number of new accounts per day over the last month.
  • 182%. Increase in number of mobile users over the past year.

All from http://blog.twitter.com/2011/03/numbers.html  which you can see for yourself.

Why these stats really don’t matter… no matter how many people are following you on Twitter or if you are in a local meeting of 15 people. If you don’t know how to build a friendship with someone it wouldn’t matter!

I know this is a little harsh but I really want to point this out because this is the difference of you working with your community and building “Business Friendships” that help each other and to be honest each of you see monetary rewards if done properly  vs. you pitching your product/service on these social networking tools and getting frustrated because no one is buying, just like your home work above. Trust me, I have been talking to Internet Marketers who are still pitching and selling, which they are feeling the crunch. I have talked to a lot of successful Internet Marketers who have changed their way of doing business and they are seeing the rewards very quickly.  This goes for any entrepreneur out there, social networking is about socializing.  The one who is getting the most business is not the one who has the best sales pitch. It’s the ones who are liked and have taken a true interest in their community.

To give you an idea of how it has helped me in this week alone.

I met Steve Huber from www.RealRadio.ca  Twitter ID is @RealRadiodotca we had a quick introduction on Twitter and exchanged contact information. We chatted on the phone the next day seeing how we could help each other out and what we’re both working on. After  a great conversation with Steve and discussing some amazing ideas, I have an interview with Steve next week and we have some plans on how to work together after the interview.  His listener base is 80,000+ and growing.

That is just the “Business Friend” I made this week. This happens all the time on Twitter because I am not using it as a selling forum. I am using the Twitter tool for what it was intended for, to be able to meet people all over the world. From there we chat as friends, get to know each other. If there is something we can help each other out with in our respective business then we will chat and see. If they need a service that I might know someone I will refer them to that contact of mine. Just like I would do with any of my friends.

I think of Twitter as my big community of friends, just because they are on Twitter it makes no difference to me. When I meet new people I ask them questions I would ask a person I would meet at a wedding or other non business social gathering. I get to know them and see how the friendship grows from there.

This is how my community on Twitter has grown so fast and I have been lucky enough to meet some amazing people who I have been blessed to now work with.

This doesn’t happen overnight and trust me it has to be a core value of yours to get to know people instead of trying to work an angle to make money.  My core value is to meet people, build up a friendship and then see where it goes from there.

Here is exactly what I do so you can do it for yourself

When I connect with someone I initially do some research on them if they have a blog, website, facebook page…etc whatever link they have put up on their Twitter bio. This way I can learn more about them. If they don’t I just ask them if they could tell me a little bit about themselves.

Then I ask them about what they are up too, what their plans are for the week/weekend depending where we are in the week. If they want to talk about their website or even their business if that is what they are promoting on Twitter I ask them questions about that. Then I continue the conversation in whatever direction they would like. If they want to talk about their business, what they are up to, a vacation they just took…etc. I listen and am very intrigued because to be honest it is awesome to meet new people and learn from them. Be it great places to stay when vacationing in different parts of the world to amazing business tips they have.

I take the time to learn and be present with the people I meet. If I can provide some insight or golden nuggets I will, but at the end of the day it is about building that friendship.

In my opinion Twitter is not dead; if you know how to use it as a Social Networking tool you will meet some amazing people. I know I do.

Are You Socializing on Your Social Network?

Hi Everyone,

It’s been a week since I did my last video. Since then several questions keep popping up as I work with people worldwide like; How do I make more money on the Social Networks? How can I build a bigger following? How can I get a higher return on my investment?…etc

I tell each of them it comes down to making Business Friends and Socializing on your social networks. To many entrepreneurs and online business people are not getting this simple concept that it’s about the relationships you develop. There is no difference from making friends locally to making friends globally it’s still building relationships. When you think of how you and your friends help each other when you need it, there is no difference from the people you meet on line.

I see too many people missing this key point of Social Media, Social Marketing, Social Networking and whatever other “Social” term you want to use. They are missing out that they need to socialize and build relationships. Think of it this way. Who are you more likely to buy a product/service from? Someone you don’t know or a friend who has been there for you and you trust? Sounds pretty simple to answer but how many of us are online right now trying to promote our business/services but not even talking to any of the people listening?

Take a look at your Social Technologies and see how you can build friendships from them? How can you start conversing with them so that you both have a equal relationship (50/50) so that you can help each other.

I know people talk about how important it’s in business to Brand yourself,  develop your USP (Unique Sales Proposition)…etc Now this is just my opinion but if you don’t have any people listening who is going to care what your brand is or what your USP is? Would your friends be listening…hmm?

Think about that when you are looking at your Feeds on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn…etc and watching what people post.  See if you’re more interested in the product or service someone is offering or what your friends are up to. There’s some food for thought.

Keep an eye out for my next interviews, I have asked Steve Gaul 121 Guinness Book of Records Drumathon, Deni Gauthier Owner of a Record Label/Musician and my secret weapon who has been in the industry since the late 1980’s and has coached some really successful people.

Thank you for following me and I would love to hear your feed back

Social Marketing Interview with Len Carby Brampton Junior Council and Financial Advisor

This Morning I had the privilege to meet with Len Carby Brampton Junior Council and Financial Advisor.

Len took a few minutes out of his busy day to sit down with me and do a video. Len has so much experience working in Business, Finance and Government it is great to have a the opportunity to be able to be able to ask him some questions.

Len is a Politician and ran for the last elections using a lot of Social media in his campaign to really get his message out to the people. Len has now started to use that in his Financial Advisor business with a lot of trial and error.

Len’s Websites are

www.lencarby.com – Political website and a direct link to his Financial Advising website is on the top menu “A Simple Life Plan” or you can go directly to the website at www.asimplelifeplan.ca

The one Social Marketing Golden Nugget that Len was recommending is don’t separate your people on the social sites. Provide them your information and let them decide if they are interested. Len has found that the people he would have never thought were interested in certain parts of his business and/or life are actually the ones calling him for more information.

I would really like to thank Len Carby for his time and please check out http://www.lencarby.com for more information. You can also follow Len Carby on Twitter @LenCarby

Watch the video above for more information.

Keep an eye on my posts because this is just the beginning

Entrepreneurs using Social Marketing need to Build Friendships First

Hey Everyone I am back doing video’s again. I have been quiet over the last few months because I have been busy working in the trenches. I have been working with a Record Label, Politician, Real Estate Agent…etc. I also have been writing e-books and listening to my business friends on the industry challenges.

The biggest challenge that I am finding is that entrepreneurs that are trying to get online are using the old style of business to try to use Social Marketing. They are getting frustrated and not seeing results which is completely understandable.

Using Social Marketing is all about building relationships and connecting to your followers where ever they maybe. You have to court them just like a date, as well you have to speak the same language.

I talk more about his in my YouTube video that you must watch.
I am going to start doing more video and I have asked all my business friends if they would do interviews with me to help you guys out. They have all agreed that they would love to do interviews on how they use Social Marketing and tips they would recommend.

Unresolved Issues

It’s 5:00am in the morning and I’m having problems sleeping due to there is just so much going on in the world.  So many people are stressed, worried, confused, upset and just feeling things are getting worse. When I talk to people all these unresolved issues are coming up for them. In fact they are escalating to the point it is dragging them deeper.

My training has given me the opportunity to be able to take an outside perspective and really see what is going on for me, as well the people around me. Everyone I talk to knows there is something changing, things are not the same be it in the world or in just their lives. It could be career, finances, relationships, health issues, energy vampires, time vampires…etc. If you don’t know the term “vampire” think of someone sucking your energy or taking all your time. We all have come in contact with these types of people, some latch on and some you’re able to get away from.

As you can see and I think we are all in agreeance that things are changing. Change can only happen when we make room for it. Now if you have unresolved issues guess what, those are the first things that have to go. You have to make room for change and the unresolved issues are going to come to the surface. If you deal with it they are going to go away, but if you suppress it for a bit, it will come back even bigger. The more you suppress it the bigger it’s going to grow. If you let it get to big it will consume you and affect all areas of your life. Trust me on this, I coach people internationally and see it time and time again. In fact when I was going through my divorce that was my unresolved issue and it kept coming back stronger and stronger. Until I just Man’d up and dealt with it. It was one of the hardest most frustrating, tiring challenges I had to deal with. Guess what? It’s over and it hasn’t come back.

I am sure you’re asking ok if I have an unresolved issue how do I deal with it, here are some recommendations I would tell people.

First you have to see how big the challenge is, are we talking about cleaning the garage or are you going through a huge life changing divorce. Depending on the situation you will need more help.  If you feel you can deal with the unresolved issue be respectful to it, don’t get upset and keep emotion out of resolving the issue. Emotions just complicate things and will cause more frustration, especially if you get upset/angry. Have a plan of action and do your best to stick to it. The plan might not go perfect but if you get 80% through the process you can always go back later and resolve that 20%.

Now if you find that it is taking too much time/energy and you’re losing the battle, call in reinforcements.  This is when you ask for help. Now here’s a warning, the more personal the issue the more pride “Ego” you’re going to have tied up in it. Let your ego go, tell it to go sit in the corner and ask for help. Ask friends, family…etc and if the situation is to big call in the big guns, the Professionals.  This way you resolve the issue without getting sucked in and dragged further into it. Remember the goal here is to get your unresolved issue resolved, not drag them on. Trust me when I was going through my divorce I didn’t do it alone. I had my lawyer, 2 really good friends with me through the whole ordeal and my family behind me helping me through the divorce.  I called in everyone, trust me if I had to do it again. Which I never hope I do, I would even call in more people to help resolve the issue even faster.

Here are some guidelines I would recommend and just to recap what I said above.

1) Be kind and compassionate while going through the process of resolving your unresolved issue

2) Don’t let your emotions get involved, set out a plan and implement it

3) Tell your Ego to take a seat in the corner, you need to deal with this Unresolved issue and you need to call in reinforcements.

4) If you find it is dragging you down and you just can do it alone, CALL in THE PROFESSIONALS

Remember life is about growth and community, if you’re not able to grow because of an unresolved issue call in the community to help you.

How The Twitter Doctor Was Born

Good morning Everyone,

I have been growing through some growth and transformation over the last 5 to 6 months. It has been hard but rewarding.

So many of us are having this issue be it with our relationships, business, health…etc The one challenge people keep coming to me with is they are stressed about certain aspects of life and they want to change. The biggest two are Business/career and finances that I have been coaching people.

They are not happy with their boss, the job is not providing them personal satisfaction and they are looking else were…etc Then on top of that they are struggling with finances and trying to do multiple things to make money. A few are working a full time job, trying to build a business on the side and trying to keep their life in balance while struggling with money.

I know how these people feel I was there only a year ago really trying to find what was working until I decided to focus on what was right in front of me. Doing some market research and listening to the people I was coaching. I found out that these people had similar challenges and needed a simple way to get out of it because if it was complicated it would just add to the mix.

Being an IT guy from the past I saw how Social Marketing was helping people build their businesses online, how they were getting more exposure, attracting more clients and the revenue was increasing but there was a specific way to do this. To many people were failing but the ones who weren’t there was a patterns.  One of the patterns was that these people was these successful people weren’t using Social Marketing to pitch their products/services they were using it to build relationships, to meet more people and really connect.  To me this was brilliant because they were getting in front of 1,000’s of people per day for FREE and people were feeling the connection.

This is when I started doing this with my Twitter @BrandonKrieger (if your reading this follow me) and I saw a little growth, than a little more to the point I was averaging over 100 new followers per day and growing fast.  This was amazing because now I had people I could connect with but I didn’t go back to my old ways of business. I started building Business Friendships and what happened was my business started to grow because I asked what people needed. When they needed my help I treated them like a friend and helped them. If it was a quick question I would answer it for them if it was something in depth I would have them contact me via e-mail.  Now if it was something that I couldn’t answer quickly then I would have them book an appointment explain to them why.  Which at this point they saw what I was doing on line and understood that if I could answer it quickly I would but they knew their question was in-depth and they needed more of my time.

This was an amazing break through but it didn’t stop there the questions started to become how did I build 34,000 followers and how could they do the same. Then I started to realize that people needed to learn how to use the Social Marketing tools properly especially Twitter. I started Coaching a few people and then a few more, to the point now that it has become a full-time business and I have an e-book coming out in the next 2 weeks keep posted at http://www.howtotwitterdoctor.com .

The Truth About Business

How many you are currently running your own business? Are you finding that business is more difficult then you expected? Is everyone under the Sun giving you their opinion on how you should run your own business?

I’m going to be completely honest with you as I always am, this gets worse as you become more successful. People trying to give you “Helpful Tips” when you don’t even ask for their opinion. Even simpler ” would you like my advice” would be nice.

This is where patience, compassion and having good core values plays a big part. When someone starts giving me advice I try to step back and be patient maybe there is a Golden nugget they might give me. Then I be compassionate thanking them for their advice and recommendation. Last but not least I keep my core values in place to keep me focused on my projects.

As long as you have these main business strategies in place and be analytical versus emotional about your business. You will see when things are not working and be able to change them immediately.

Here is what I recommend you have in place

1) Have a action oriented business plan in place that is very detailed

2) Systems in place to measure your results daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, annually…etc

3) Market research to see what the market wants

4) Feed back systems to see how you can improve

Now these are just 4 basic recommendation but if you have these in place as your core you will be able to build on top of these.

Remember business is not meant to be hard especially in this day and age with Social Marketing. It has never been easier to build a business and market it. As long as you have the right foundation in place, test to measurable results, be consistent and listen you will succeed.
